John Edelman: A Design Leader Shaping What Comes Next

As an integral part of the Radical Innovation Product Jury for the past three years, John Edelman brings a perspective rooted in decades of experience shaping some of the most influential brands in modern design. His connection to Radical extends beyond the jury. For the past three years, the Radical Innovation stage at the annual awards ceremony and dinner has featured Heller Furniture, further reflecting his influence and ongoing collaboration with the platform. His approach, grounded in authenticity, originality, and long-term thinking, aligns closely with Radical Innovation’s mission to challenge convention and advance the future of hospitality and design.

With more than 30 years of experience across ownership and executive leadership roles, Edelman has consistently transformed brands and redefined market positions. In his latest move, he has joined Haworth Lifestyle as President of North and South America, overseeing a portfolio of globally recognized brands including Cappellini, Cassina, Ceccotti, Poltrona Frau, and Zanotta. The appointment reflects a strategic effort to strengthen Haworth Lifestyle’s presence in the Americas while leveraging Edelman’s deep industry expertise.

Edelman’s career is marked by a series of pivotal transformations. He built Edelman Leather into a global luxury brand before its acquisition by Knoll, and later revitalized Design Within Reach into a leader in authentic modern design, eliminating knockoffs, rebuilding vendor relationships, and expanding both product development and retail presence. Following its acquisition by Herman Miller, he served as CEO of both DWR and the Herman Miller Consumer Group.

Most recently, Edelman led Heller Furniture as CEO and President, guiding the brand through a period of renewed growth and innovation. With Heller now joining Haworth, he will continue to shape its creative direction as Creative Director while supporting its next phase of global expansion.

Across each chapter of his career, Edelman has remained committed to championing original design and building meaningful relationships. This approach continues to influence the broader industry and reflects the type of leadership and perspective that defines the Radical Innovation community.
