The Making of the 2026 Radical Innovation Trophies

At Radical Innovation, we believe the trophy itself should reflect the same creativity, bold thinking, and innovation that we celebrate through the competition. This year’s trophy goes beyond traditional recognition, embodying the spirit of innovation and forward-thinking design.

For Radical Innovation’s 20th Anniversary, this year’s trophies bring the mission of the competition to life through a collaboration with Ridezign, a Brooklyn-based industrial design studio.

Featuring the studio’s Tesser Light, customized for Radical Innovation, the trophies combine thoughtful design with innovative manufacturing. Each category winner receives a functional piece of lighting that serves as a lasting reminder of their achievement.

The Tesser Collection is Ridezign’s ode to New York City, capturing the shifting rhythms of a metropolis in perpetual motion. Inspired by the play of light and shadow across its skyscraper facades, the lights translate fleeting urban impressions into distinctive geometric forms brought to life through 3D printing. Made from recycled PETG or bioplastics, each lamp combines innovative design with material-conscious production. Each piece invites a moment of wonder and curiosity, creating a meaningful connection between people and the spaces they inhabit.

This partnership offers a fitting connection to the competition’s mission: rethinking the familiar, challenging established expectations, and discovering new possibilities through design.
